1982 - Timata o nga Kōhanga reo. Arohanui Ki Te Tanagata Te Kōhanga Reo.

1985 - TKR graduates attend Gracefield School. Two hours instruction in te Reo Māori per week.

1985 - TKR graduates attend Waiwhetu School. One hour instruction in Te Reo Māori per week.

1986 - TKR graduates move to Wilford School bi-lingual unit. 30% instruction in Te Reo Māori.

1985 - Waiwhetu School. Five hours instruction of Te Reo Māori per week.

1993 - Submission to MOE for establishment of a Kura Kaupapa Māori.

1987–Waiwhetu whānau gains 30 hours instruction in Te Reo Māori per week at Waiwhetu School.

 

1989–Whānau gain 50% instruction in Te Reo Māori at Waiwhetu School. 

August 1995 - Waiwhetu and Kokiri amalgamate

January 1995 - Te Ara Whanui Private School commences at Kokiri Marae Seaview with 100% instruction in Te Reo Māori. Community funded.

January 1996 - Te Ara Whanui Kura Kaupapa Māori o nga Kōhanga reo o te  awakairangi
